About Me

Hi I’m Maria. Welcome to my little home on the web. I wanted to tell you a bit about myself and how Baked Good by Maria began. I started baking just as a hobby, making cakes, pies and cupcakes for my family on holidays and birthdays. That all changed in 2006 when I took some of my baked goods to a potluck at work, and my coworkers really liked what I brought in. I mean they REALLY liked them! 

 

They encouraged me and told me that I should start selling my baked goods and that is where this all started. Well, actually, it started long before that because I come from a family of cooks and bakers, in fact, my grandmother owned a restaurant called Mozella’s Diner where she made and sold the most amazing soul food. My Aunt Lela Mae was also great cook and baker. She even made my mother’s wedding cake and my aunt’s Wedding Cakes.  Then of course, there was my mom. Talk about an amazing cook. Mom always cooked and

baked from scratch. Watching her in our kitchen developed a passion for baking in me that I still have to this day.  

 

Like a lot of people, I began by baking for various events such as birthdays, anniversaries, parties and church functions. Seeing how much people enjoyed my creations from the kitchen

was very rewarding. That pushed me to try new and different things. I attended a couple of

cake decorating classes but am mostly self-taught. Sometimes, things like that are more of a feeling rather than something you learn.  The more cakes and things I decorated, the more confident I became in my abilities. Plus, I love the challenge of trying something new.

 

All the history of great cooks in my family, passion for delicious baked goods, and experiences  have led me to start Baked Goods By Maria. I have had my home-based baking business for 15 years now. That’s a LOT of cakes, cupcakes, and treats! I love baking for people and seeing the smile on their face when the bite into something scrumptious.
